Saturday NBA POD Memphis Grizzlies vs Phoenix Suns January 28, 2012

Donny's NBA POD  for today is the Memphis Grizzlies -3.5  vs the Phoenix Suns

The Memphis Grizzlies have a chance to salvage their road trip with a win over the Suns when they roll into Phoenix this Saturday night . After 2 straight losses to a couple of good teams - Blazers and the Clippers, the Grizzlies had a day off and will get a chance to take advantage of a Suns team that is playing back to back.  Steve Nash can only do so much and now here comes a well coached and somewhat disciplined team looking to break a 2 game losing streak.

Friday NBA POD New Jersey Nets vs Cleveland Cavalier January 27, 2012

Jan
27

Donny NBA POD  for today is the New Jersey Nets +3.5 vs the Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers are playing better than expected.  Rookie Kyle Irving is working out to be a decent point guard.  They are no powerhouse by any means, but the Cavs should not be dismissed as they will steal the game from under your nose if you get too confident.  Thanks to their committment on defense their hustle plays are making the difference and they are doing much better than last year's 12 game losing streak to start their season.

Building subway is better for city than Eglinton LRT plan

Jan

Eglinton LRT

Mayor Rob Ford got it right when he wants to build a subway instead of the Eglinton LRT because it's the logical choice and makes sense for Toronto and urbanization.

Thursday NBA POD - Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic January 26, 2012

Jan
26

Donny's Sports Pick of the day is the Boston Celtics +10 vs the Orlando Magic
The Boston Celtics routed Orlando by 31 points the last time they played them in Boston.  Today on there are only NBA games being played and Orlando is looking to avenge that beat down.  Howard is playing great and his size is always a big factor in Orlando's offense.  So tonight Orlando has home court advantage and the added motivation, that's why we has the line at -10 for Orlando.
Boston is missing Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen.  On the other hand the Celtics are well rested and Kevin Garnett is still faster than Howard.  Paul Pierce should do well with the extra rest.  Boston is an older team so back to back affects their bones more than the young pups of the NBA.  Boston didn't start out too well in the beginning of the season but I think they will come around.

Wednesday NBA POD - New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers January 25, 2012

Jan
25

Donny's Sports Pick of the day is the New York Knicks -3.5 over the Cleveland Cavaliers
New York played so much better yesterday and routed the Bobcats.  Carmelo scored 1 point and they won by double digits.  Perhaps it's not that he scored 1 point but rather playing with the attitude of winning and sharing.
Today they have another weak opponent, the Cavaliers.  New York must take this game tonight as well considering their poor record.  It's a case of now or never.  Now that Melo has the right attitude, he can score some points tonight and increase New York's chance to win this game.
Cavaliers should not be underestimated, although they are a weak team, they have shown heart and desire to improve.  Hustle wins games too.  Being at home, this could be a close one and the Knicks may even outright lose.  However I think they should win.  If they don't then they can kiss the season good bye.

Give RIM's new CEO a chance to prove himself

Jan
24

Thorsten Heins

Thorsten Heins is the new CEO at RIM and it's not such a bad thing.  We need to give him a chance to prove himself before jumping on to the RIM is going to die bandwagon.

First let look at Thorsten Hein's credentials, yes, he is an insider for four years at RIM and has served as chief operating officer and prior to that he was at Siemens AG.  He is known to be a tech guy and does not have the personalities of a Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison or Scott McNealy and that in itself is also not a bad thing.  He does not have an inflated ego and thinks that everything revolves around him.
